Our next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, November 7th at 6:00 PM in the school library. At this meeting we will elect officers and begin discussing ways the PTO can assist SGCMS moving forward.
Medivac will be coming this morning to speak to our CTE classes. If you hear of the Medivac helicopter landing at the middle school that is why.

Congrats to Ms. Kristi Sorrell for being selected as the 2023-2024 SGCMS Teacher of the Year! We are grateful for her continued dedication to our students and all that she does to prepare our students for math prior to their transition to high school.
All Band and Color Guard Parents! Your student was sent home with information about the Chili Supper Fundraiser today, including what item they are responsible for supplying. If you do not receive this, please email Mr. Bateman at rbateman@gcssd.org and he will send all the information to you.
If you are not in the Remind group, please join, as this is the band's primary form of communication. Mr. Bateman will also email Remind instructions if you need them.
Ms. Mains and Mr. Stevens homeroom students were treated to McDonald's for lunch today for having the highest averages on their recent CASE test in the 7th grade.
Students in the 7th grade Career Exploration class were visited by speakers from Centennial Bank today. Renee Morris, Misty Sharp, and Ryan Barnes spent time discussing time management, interviewing skills, goal setting, and jobs in the Business career cluster.
8th Grade Students will be taking the Pre-ACT on Friday, October 27th. The test will take most of the day. The Pre-ACT results are used to help determine who is eligible to take honors classes in high school. Get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. Good luck on the test!
On Friday, 7th graders in Career Exploration class were introduced to careers in Law enforcement by listening to Sergeant Micheal Sullivan, Trooper Chris Crocker, and Dispatchers Leslie Pipkin and Raelyn Chumney.
8th grade students in Mrs. Malone’s Career Advising and Planning classes learned about careers in the Business/Finance career cluster. Ms. Melanie Luckey from JEA spoke to students about the finance career path and exposed them to budgeting.
Trunk or Treat
Pink Out will be Monday, October 23rd and this year we are raising money for one of our students who is currently undergoing treatments at St. Jude. We will be selling t-shirts, beads, bracelets, and sunglasses with all proceeds going to this family. T-shirt order forms and money will be due Tuesday, October 17th. Beads, bracelets, and sunglasses will be sold at school beginning Tuesday and will continue through Monday, October 23rd. Bracelets will be sold for $1, beads for $1, and sunglasses for $5 . Again, all of the proceeds will be donated to this family. The grade level to raise the most amount of money will be rewarded with a popsicle party!
Boys Soccer Tryouts will be October 30th, 31st, and November 1st.
In order to try out, students must have a completed physical.
SGMCS is celebrating National School Lunch Week! We are so grateful for our school cafeteria workers, who do a great job providing our students a nutritious breakfast and lunch each and every day.
8th grade students can now begin applying for the “Work Ethic Distinction” award. GCSSD will honor eligible 8th graders with this award who have met the following criteria: keep standards always met, complete 15 hours of community service, ensure they arrive at school and classes on time, make every effort to attend school and classes each day, be respectful and cooperative to students, teachers, and administrators, and do their best when completing assignments.
On Wednesday, Mr. Jim Droke spoke to 6/7/8 graders in Mrs. Malone's Career Exploration class about manufacturing, maintenance, and the paths that students can take to reach their goals.
On Thursday, to wrap up the College Application month, students dressed for the career they want in the future!
As our 5th grade students are studying Davy Crockett's role in the War of 1812 and the Alamo, Mr. Crenshaw dressed today as Davy Crockett. We are so grateful to have Mr. Crenshaw as a part of SGCMS this year as he shares his passion for history with his students.
Due to intramurals on Friday, we are moving our final Career Awareness dress up day to tomorrow. Tomorrow's theme is "dress for the career you want when you enter the workforce".
